TI: I'm happy to tell you... Demons aren't real. Now, don't you feel better?
I recommend The Demon Haunted World - Carl Sagan. Very interesting read. Or if you don't feel like reading, watch some videos on YouTube about it.. I'd start with Fear and faith with Derren Brown.
Our brains can construct some amazing things.

Unstop - I think you will enjoy ISOCF. VERY long book, but ray dismantles nearly all of the WT doctrines, all with quotes to back it up. He did still believe in the last days, which I didn't agree with at the time.
And no, no Jesus for me thanks. If he decides to get around to that second coming everyone is talking about and proves he's real and deserves my attention, then opinions may change. Facts only for me. He may have to apologize for being absent all this time.
Lost gen - thanks, I'll get that one when I'm done the greatest show on earth. I mostly listen to audiobooks at work. We'll see if I'm not tired to listening to Dawkins narrate his own work. It seems his knowledge and experience is paralleled only by his arrogance.

Single Malt Whiskey. A preference?
by LoisLane looking for Superman ini am not a drinker but i hear single malt whiskeys are good.. yesterday at the liquor store, i asked a nice man, who also was looking over the bottle display, if he could tell me which one does he prefer and why.
one of the store clerks, came by, listening, and said she preferred the same bottle.. i bought the one they preferred:.
glenmorangie.

Do your hosts especially enjoy scotch?
I am very much a single malt guy. The glenmorangie you mentioned is delicious. If you're looking in that price range, a nice Bruichladdich or Macallans is also a nice choice. The Macallan 12 being my personal fave. Yum. Sipping a nice sherry cask single malt is one of my favourite things to do.
Most people's tastes are less likely to enjoy a smokier scotch, like a lagavulin.
I could go on for days...

Oh and before unstopableravens comes on here to plead with me to come to Jesus...
I gave the whole come to Jesus thing an honest try. Ater reading ISOCF I was all fired up and began reading the bible everyday, enjoying it at first. According to the NT a Christian is just tied to Jesus, no church/cult needed. Unfortunately the more one digs into the bible, the more it presents itself as a big book of self-contradictory riddles and myths. If an all-powerful deity were to compile a set of writings, one would expect them not to be written in riddles. Especially when he'll kill you if you don't accept his riddle book.
Sorry bud, I'm not buying it. Besides, evolution is a beautiful process. Learning about it gives a sense of peace, finally finding the truth.

Part of this has been discussed to death on here but here goes.
Since waking up, I've read or listened to:
Crisis of Conscience
In Search of Christian Freedom
Combatting Cult Mind Control
The Gentile Times Reconsidered
Captives of a Concept
Freedom of Mind
I'd say that pretty well covers the bases for any leaving JW like myself. I never held my beliefs all that dearly, and now having begun to think critically, consider facts objectively and base decisions on that... I feel myself drawing towards atheism/agnosticism. Clearly evolution did/does happen. I hate ALL religion, it poisons everything.. Seriously. Show me ONE good one. I also feel that if there is a god, he's clearly lazy, heartless and doesn't deserve worship. He has some 'splaining to do if he ever decides to show up on the scene.
For a while I've tried to hold off on this because I feel that my views won't help me wake my wife up... I now see no point in denying it. I cannot believe in a creator. The bible is hardly worth the paper it's printed on.
So lets compile a list of books for someone in my situation, shall we? I have read/listened to so far:
The Demon Haunted World - Carl Sagan
Guns, Germs and Steel - Jared Diamond
The Blind Watchmaker - Richard Dawkins
I have also downloaded The Greatest Show On Earth for after the blind watchmaker.
Where should I go from here? A few months ago I may have wanted to read some books about how the bible is bunk, but now I honestly don't care.

Why most young/teen JW's are born-in's?
by XPeterX inage 8-18 or maybe older.why won't you find young people or teens in the world who want to learn about the jw's without being taught by their parents?i mean c'mon guys we all know that the majority of the jw youth are jw's because their mothers, fathers or both told them about the org.any thoughts?.

I would think the answer to this question would be obvious but...
Normal teenage life > No parties, no sex, no friends outside of the Borg, no holidays, meetings, field serve-us.
Being a JW kid/teen sucks.
